Five on Friday

I am all over the place this week, so I thought I’d share five things that I’m loving this week. Cheers to…

Hudson’s birthday!

Running pre-party errands–we can’t get the stroller into Molly’s Cupcakes so the carrier it was! He actually does much better in the carrier than the stroller these days because he can see more (and wave to his people) but homeboy is HEAVY so we have to move fast!

Hudson’s birthday is tomorrow! We kept the guest list small, to just our immediate families close by. And while my intention was to keep the whole production small as well, I’m sitting next to a helium tank, a pile of streamers, and my eyes are red from Pinning so much birthday inspiration, so wish me luck. I did cancel the $120 smash cake order I’d started, (I’m honestly not even sure he’s going to like cake!) so it’s not like I’m showing NO restraint here. It should be a fun little celebration if I can just keep it together. I can’t believe my baby is one!

A great book

I just finished the book China Rich Girlfriend, the sequel to Crazy Rich Asians, and I am genuinely a little depressed that it’s over. I’m also delaying starting the third book in the series because I was sneaking time to read like some sort of addict. That’s how good this series is! It was recommended to me forever in Amazon but I was put off by the title. I finally gave it a shot after it was highly recommended by a friend and I am obsessed: it’s truly like escaping to another (very rich) world. It’s mostly just fun and really well written fiction, but reading about the cultural dynamics in Asia is so intriguing. Also, Singapore has now shot to the very top of my must-visit list. Can’t recommend this series enough!

New friends

My little “wallflower” at a friend’s birthday party.

I remember when Hudson was an infant asking a friend that lives out of state how on earth you ever make new mom friends. She told me that it gets really easy once you start taking them to the park a lot—and lo and behold, she was right. I recently got to chatting with a local mom who’s son is a few months older than Hudson. She’s been so sweet and welcoming to Hudson and I, and we’ve loved going to the playdates that she organizes for her group of friends. Seeing Hudson with other little kids is the BEST because he’s finally at an age where he is really starting to engage with others. He may be a mama’s boy (and can stay that way as loooooong as he would like!) but he really loves being around other people—he had a 5 minute “conversation” with another baby in the pool yesterday and I almost died of cuteness.

Old friends

Last weekend was a girlfriend’s bachelorette party, and I haven’t seen much of this group of girls since Hudson was born. I was worried about being able to hang because this my bedtime is literally 9PM these days and dinner started at 8, but I caffeinated and powered through! I had such a great time and my face hurt from laughing so hard—there is nothing like some good, old-fashioned girl time (and some sparkling rose doesn’t hurt either!)

Best friends in the making

Blitz trying to figure Hudson out just a little over a year ago now.

Hudson’s new trick is giving “hugs”—he is not a super snuggly guy because he’s too wiggly, but he’ll briefly rest his head on my shoulder like, “fine, here you go, mom.” if I ask him for a hug. I’m actually not sure where he got this trick—Grandma? Thank you, if that was you! The other day he took off at a super speedy crawl towards our cat, who looked more than a little alarmed, then came to a screeching halt and dropped down to rest his head on Blitz’s tummy to give him a hug. This is momentous because Blitz has followed us around for a YEAR now, always nearby Hudson and often sitting outside his door when he’s sleeping—despite the fact that he was dethroned as the apple of our eye thanks to Hudson’s arrival. Hudson has obviously been way too young to give Blitz much love in return (even though I knew he loves him!) so this was just the cutest.

It was a great week and it flew by, as they all seem to do these days. Hope yours was great, too!
